Residential areas of Ukraine’s Mar’inka in Donbas under attack again, woman wounded

Residential areas of the Ukrainian-controlled town of Mar’inka in Donbas have again come under fire after Russia’s hybrid military forces mounted an attack on Ukrainian army positions at about 11:00 local time on Thursday, June 22, according to the press service of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) Headquarters, according to UNIAN.

“Several shells hit a residential house on Sadovyi Lane. As a result of the attack, the building was damaged and a 43-year-old woman was wounded,” the ATO HQ reported on Facebook with reference to the Joint Center for Control and Coordination (JCCC) of the Ceasefire in Donbas.

The victim was rushed to hospital in the town of Kurakhove in Donetsk region. She has shrapnel wounds to the right forearm and the left thigh, the report said. Doctors assess her condition as a state of moderate severity, the ATO HQ said.

Observers from the JCCC’s Ukrainian team are now working in Mar’inka. Information about other victims and damages to civilian facilities is being verified.

“Such actions by the leaders of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic signal that they are interested in further escalation of the conflict, demonstrate reluctance to observe the ceasefire regime and the intentional failure to comply with the Minsk accords,” the Ukrainian side said.

The meeting of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron is scheduled in Paris on Monday, June 26, the Ukrainian president has said, according to Interfax-Ukraine.

“We were invited to meet with President Macron in Paris on June 26. And he has a very pro-European position. We are preparing for the leaders’ talks next week in the Normandy format and these are very important and very effective weeks for Ukraine and for Europe,” Poroshenko said during a joint statement with President of the European Council Donald Tusk in Brussels on Thursday.
