Yandex to close offices in Ukraine

Yandex site has decided to close its offices in Kyiv and Odesa, Public Relations Director at Yandex Ochir Mandzhikov informed, according to Ukrinform.

“Yandex.Ukraine company has been added to the list of sanctions and cannot actually conduct business in Ukraine. In particular, all bank accounts of the company have been blocked, making it impossible to pay salaries to employees. Therefore, we decided to close offices in Kyiv and Odesa,” Mandzhikov said.

He added that the staff would be offered to continue working in other Yandex’ offices in other countries.

The decision was announced after Ukraine’s State Security Service raided Yandex’s Kyiv and Odesa offices on Monday, accusing the company of illegally collecting Ukrainian users’ data and sending it to Russian security agencies. The company repelled this accusation.

One Ukrainian soldier killed, three wounded in 15 attacks in Donbas since start of Friday

Illegal armed groups in Donbas continue armed provocations against Ukrainian troops participating in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO), having attacked Ukrainian strongholds 15 times since the beginning of the day, repeatedly using weapons prohibited by the Minsk agreements, Joinfo.com reports with reference to Interfax-Ukraine.

“As a result of fighting today, one Ukrainian serviceman has been killed in action and another three have been wounded,” the press centre of the ATO headquarters said in an update on Facebook on Friday evening.

Kyiv court arrests Luhansk region’s former tax chief on $3.8 mln bail

Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov has said that Kyiv’s Pechersk District Court arrested former head of Luhansk region’s tax inspectorate Oleksandr Antipov, according to UNIAN.

“Antipov whose bag contained $3.8 million when he was detained has just received his preventive measure in the Pechersk Court under Article 209 of the Criminal Procedure Code (money laundering), i.e. arrest with bail set at UAH 100 million ($3.8 million),” Avakov wrote on Facebook in the early hours of Friday, June 2. The ex-tax official was handcuffed in the courtroom, he added.

Former head of the then Tax and Revenue Ministry’s main department in Luhansk region Oleksandr Antipov was detained during a large-scale anti-corruption raid by the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs on May 24.

On the same day, the Pechersky district court ruled that he should be remanded in custody with UAH 15 million bail. The launch of the massive anti-corruption crackdown was announced by Ukraine’s chief military prosecutor Anatoliy Matios and Interior Minister Arsen Avakov at a joint press conference at Kyiv’s Zhuliany airport on May 24, 2017.

The operation involved over 1,700 police officers and about 500 military prosecutors, who conducted 454 raids in 15 regions in Ukraine. Prosecutor General Lutsenko in turn announced that 22 officials from the regional tax authorities had been detained. They were affiliated with disgraced ex-president Viktor Yanukovych’s allies.

The detainees were brought to Kyiv by air and then sent to the court that decided on pretrial measures.
