Two Ukrainian soldiers wounded amid 50 enemy attacks in last day
Russia’s hybrid military forces attacked Ukrainian army positions in Donbas 50 times in the past 24 hours with two Ukrainian soldiers reported as wounded in action, according to the press service of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) Headquarters, Joinfo.com reports with reference to UNIAN.
More than half of violations of the ceasefire by the Russian occupation forces, namely 27, were recorded in the Mariupol sector, according to the report. In the Donetsk sector, 17 enemy attacks were reported.
“The situation remains most tense in the vicinity of the town of Avdiyivka, where the militants once again fired Grad MLR systems twice on our positions last evening. In particular, enemy missiles once again hit the residential area, which is located on the settlement’s southern outskirts,” the report says. The headquarters said no local residents had been injured. On the Luhansk line, six episodes of militant shelling were recorded in the past day.
Ukrainian central bank cuts key policy rate to 12.5%
The Board of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has decided to cut the key policy rate to 12.5%, effective May 26, 2017, according to UNIAN.
“The decision to ease monetary policy is consistent with the pursuit of inflation targets set for 2017-2018 and will help propel the economic growth in Ukraine,” the NBU press service reported Thursday.
As expected, headline inflation slowed to 12.2% yoy in April 2017. The slowdown was primarily due to the waning base effect (natural gas tariffs surged in April 2016, which affected this year’s comparison base).
In April, actual inflation came in slightly below the projected path of annual headline inflation published by the NBU in the Inflation Report (April 2017), envisaging a slowdown in the annual CPI to 9.1% by the end of 2017. The shortfall can be attributed to weaker-than-expected underlying inflation pressures.
Last time, NBU cut the key policy rate to 13% on April 14, 2017.
