In the Mariupol sector, the enemy used 120mm mortars, grenade launchers, heavy machine guns, and small arms against the defenders of the village of Pavlopil. Ukrainian strongpoints near the town of Mar’inka came under enemy fire from 82mm mortars, infantry fighting vehicles, Zu-23-2 anti-aircraft guns, and heavy machine guns. The Russian-backed militants fired 82mm mortars, grenade launchers, heavy machine guns, and small arms on Ukrainian positions near the village of Hnutove. The ATO forces stationed near the town of Krasnohorivka were attacked with 82mm mortars, grenade launchers of various types, and heavy machine guns, while the defenders of the villages of Vodiane came under fire from infantry fighting vehicles, anti-tank grenade launchers, heavy machine guns, and small arms. The occupiers used grenade launchers of various types near the villages of Talakivka and Shyrokyne, as well as heavy machine guns against the defenders of the village of Novotroyitske. What is more, enemy snipers were active near Pavlopil.

In the Donetsk sector, the Russian occupation forces opened fire from 120mm and 82mm mortars, anti-tank grenade launchers, infantry fighting vehicles, grenade launchers, and small arms on Ukrainian strongpoints near the village of Luhanske. The enemy also used IFVs, 120mm and 82mm mortars, grenade launchers, heavy machine guns, and small arms near the town of Avdiyivka. The defenders of the village of Verkhnyotoretske came under fire from 120mm mortars, infantry fighting vehicles, grenade launchers and heavy machine guns, while Ukrainian positions near the villages of Novhorodske, Mayorsk, Zaitseve, and Butivka coal mine were attacked with grenade launchers of various systems and small arms.

Automatic grenade launchers and small arms were fired at the strongpoints near the settlements of Valuyske, Krymske, Malynove, and Stanytsia Luhanska. “In some occasions, when there was an immediate threat to the life and health of Ukrainian troops, their commanders took decisions to adequately return fire,” the ATO HQ said.

Merkel sees no need to conclude new agreement on peaceful settlement of Ukraine conflict

There is no need for a new agreement to promote a peace process in Ukraine, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said, according to Interfax-Ukraine.

“I do not think it is necessary to conclude a new agreement,” Merkel said at a press conference on Tuesday after talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, when asked a relevant question.

Merkel said she was not contented with the growing secession trends in the eastern regions of Ukraine.

“The expropriation of enterprises, the transport blockade, and other issues must be studied very thoroughly, and everything possible must be done to reverse this,” Merkel said.

“Of course we want to make sure Ukraine gets access to its national border, which is also part of the Minsk Agreements, before securing a political resolution aimed at conducting local elections,” Merkel said.
