Militants launch 45 attacks, 5 Ukrainian soldiers wounded in last day

Russia’s hybrid military forces attacked Ukrainian army positions in Donbas 45 times in the past 24 hours with five Ukrainian soldiers reported as wounded in action, according to the press service of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) Headquarters, Joinfo.com reports with reference to UNIAN.

In the Mariupol sector, the enemy fired 82mm mortars, Zu-23-2 anti-aircraft guns, grenade launchers of various systems and heavy machine guns on the defenders of the town of Mar’inka. The Ukrainian Marines near the village of Vodiane came under fire from grenade launchers, armored vehicles, and heavy machine guns. The defenders of the village of Novotroyitske were provoked by “harassing” fire from anti-tank grenade launchers. The occupiers also opened fire from infantry fighting vehicles on the Ukrainian Marines near the village of Shyrokyne as well as an armored personnel carrier near the village of Pavlopil. The Russian occupation forces used heavy machine guns and small arms on the Ukrainian fortified positions near the village of Berezove. Additionally, enemy snipers were active near Vodiane and Novotroyitske, and the towns of Maryinka and Krasnohorivka.

In the Donetsk sector, the invaders fired from 120mm and 82mm mortars and infantry fighting vehicles on the Ukrainian soldiers near the village of Opytne. The defenders of the town of Avdiyivka came under fire from 82mm mortars, grenade launchers of various systems, a Zu-23-2 anti-aircraft gun and heavy machine guns. The militants used 82mm mortars and anti-tank grenade launchers against the Ukrainian military near the village of Verkhniotoretske, as well as a Zu-23-2 anti-aircraft gun and infantry fighting vehicles in the village of Luhanske.

Moreover, the enemy shelled grenade launchers of various types and heavy machine guns toward the defenders of the villages of Zaitseve and Pisky, as well as heavy machine guns near the village of Kamianka. Furthermore, infantry fighting vehicles were used near Pisky.

In the Luhansk sector, the Russian-backed militants opened fire from 120mm mortars and anti-tank grenade launchers on the Ukrainian positions near the village of Krymske, armored personnel carriers and grenade launchers near the village of Novo-Oleksandrivka, as well as grenade launchers of various types on the defenders of the village of Katerynivka.

It should be recalled that the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) to Ukraine spotted proscribed weapons in Russian-occupied areas in Donbas on the weekend; they included multiple rocket launchers, howitzers, as well as tanks.

Eurovision 2017: Main arena presented to journalists

Construction works are underway at Kyiv’s International Exhibition Center – the venue of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. The main arena of the competition has been finally shown to journalists: 70 meters wide and 14 meters high, weighing 30 tons, according to Ukrinform.

All video elements have been installed. The work on programming light needed for the show is to start today. The installation of spectator stands (for 7,000 people) is almost completed.

Ola Melzig, Technical Director of the Eurovision 2017, assured that all construction works are carried out according to plan.

2017 Eurovision Song Contest will take place on May 9, 11 and 13 at the International Exhibition Centre in the host city of Kyiv.

Ukrainian transport aircraft breaks new world record

An-2 has lifted 3,202 kg cargo, a record-breaking for its class, to the height of 2,700 meters, Joinfo.com reports with reference to Interfax-Ukraine.

A transport aircraft designed by Antonov State Enterprise (Kyiv) has broken a new world record. The press service of the enterprise reported that on Tuesday, April 11, An-2-100 transport aircraft, the modernized version of famous light biplane An-2, made a test flight in the presence of a representative of the World air sports federation (FAI) at the test base of the Antonov enterprise.

“The plane lifted a cargo weighting 3,202 kg, a record-breaking for its class, to the height of 2,700 meters,” the press service said. The highest commercial burden for An-2-100 is 1,500 kg.

An-2-100 can carry passengers, cargos at local routes. The plane can be used at small airfields in simple and difficult climate and weather conditions. An-2-100 has MS-14 engine made by Motor-Sich (Zaporizhia).
