Ukrainian President says former Duma deputy murder is an act of Russia’s ‘state terrorism’

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has held a meeting with the law enforcers on the cynical murder of ex-Russian MP Denis Voronenkov in Kyiv city center, as Press Secretary of the President Svyatoslav Tsegolko wrote on Facebook, Joinfo.com reports with reference to Ukrinform.

“The insidious murder of Denis Voronenkov in Kyiv city center is the act of Russia’s ‘state terrorism’. Voronenkov was forced to leave Russia for political reasons. There is an obvious pattern of the Russian special services, which earlier was repeatedly shown in several European capitals,” the President said during the meeting.

He stressed that Voronenkov had been one of the main witnesses of Russian aggression and, in particular, the role of fugitive president Yanukovych in sending Russian troops to Ukraine.

As reported, Denis Voronenkov, a former deputy of Russia’s State Duma was shot dead near the Premier Palace Hotel in the center of Kyiv this afternoon. Voronenkov left Russia in the autumn of 2016 because of criminal prosecution. In December, he received Ukrainian citizenship. He is a witness in the treason case against former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych.
The Interior Ministry reported today that the assassin who killed Russian Duma’s former deputy Denis Voronenkov in the center of Kyiv on Thursday has died amid surgery in hospital.

Explosions rock almost half of ammunition warehouse facility in Balaklia, may continue for up to a week

Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman says explosions have spread to about half of the territory occupied by the ammunition warehouse facility located in Balaklia, Kharkiv region, Joinfo.com reports with reference to Interfax-Ukraine.

He added the situation could last from three to seven days.

“About half of the ammunition storage facilities are on fire. We can see several days, from three to seven, may be needed before the situation becomes clear,” Groysman told journalists in Kharkiv region.

Groysman said he expects Kharkiv regional administration to submit an additional funds request to from the government’s reserve fund to cover damages from disaster, adding they would be given “quickly.”

Militants launched 84 attacks, 1 Ukrainian soldier killed, 1 wounded in last day

Russia’s hybrid military forces attacked Ukrainian army positions in Donbas 84 times in the past 24 hours, with one Ukrainian soldier reported as killed in action and one as wounded in action, according to the press service of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) Headquarters, Joinfo.com reports with reference to UNIAN.

In the Mariupol sector, the situation was most tense near the village of Shyrokyne where the enemy opened fire from 120mm and 82mm mortars, infantry fighting vehicles, grenade launchers of various systems and heavy machine guns. Additionally, the militants used 122mm artillery systems and Grad MLR systems to shell the Ukrainian Marines’ fortified positions near the village of Vodiane. The occupiers used grenade launchers and heavy machine guns near the villages of Pavlopil, Lebedynske, Hnutove, and Chermalyk, while the Ukrainian positions in the town of Mar’inka came under sniper fire.

In the Donetsk sector, the “hottest” situation was in the town of Avdiyivka whose defenders were attacked by the Russian occupation forces with mortars, grenade launchers, machine guns and anti-tank missile systems. The enemy also launched heavy 152mm artillery barrages against Ukrainian troops’ positions near the village of Zaitseve. Moreover, grenade launchers and heavy machine guns were used to fire on the fortified positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near the villages of Luhanske, Troyitske, and Verkhniotoretske.

In the Luhansk sector, the Russian-backed mercenaries used 120mm mortars, grenade launchers and machine guns to attack the defenders of the village of Novozvanivka. The enemy also fired 82mm mortars on the Ukrainian positions near the village of Krymske, as well as grenade launchers and small arms near the village of Stanytsia Luhanska. Given the situation, the Ukrainian military was forced to fire back.
