Coal mine explosion: all miners evacuated, Friday declared a day of mourning
There were 172 miners down in the mine at the moment of the explosion. As we reported earlier, 8 people were killed as a result of an explosion at mine No. 10 Stepova of JSC Lvivvuhillia in the village of Hlukhiv in Lviv region’s Sokalskiy district.
President Poroshenko declared the national day of mourning on Friday, March 3.
Militants shell 118 times, one soldier killed, nine wounded in Donbas
Militants launched 118 attacks on Ukrainian Armed Forces’ positions during the past 24 hours. One Ukrainian soldier was killed and nine were injured as a result of the shelling, Joinfo.com reports with reference to 112 Ukraine TV channel.
According to the Anti-Terrorist Operation HQ, in the Donetsk sector, illegal Russian units shelled Avdiivka with mortars, infantry fighting vehicles and grenade launchers. They fired at the villages of Nevelske, Luhanske, Zaitseve, Novhorodske, Pisky, Kam’ianka and Novoselivka Druha with mortars and grenade launchers. IFV weaponry was used in Luhanske, and a sniper was shooting here. Occupants fired anti-tank missile systems at Troitske.
In the Mariupol sector, militants shelled Krasnohorivka with a tank, artillery and mortars. 112 mm artillery was used to shell Vodiane, Shyrokyne; mortars – to shell Novotroitske, Bohdanivka, Pavlopil and Chermalyk. The enemy hit Pavlopil, Talakivka, Lebedynske, Vodiane and Shyrokyne with grenade launchers and small arms. IFV weaponry was used in Shyrokyne, Mariinka, Novotroitske and Vodiane.
In the Luhansk sector, militants shelled Troitske with 152mm artillery, they hit Krymske with 122mm artillery. Occupants shelled Novozvanivka, Novooleksandrivka, Orihove, Troitske, Zolote and Katerynivka with 120 and 82mm mortars. They shelled Novozvanivka, Novooleksandrivka, Malynove, Stanytsia Luhanska and Katerynivka with grenade launchers and small arms. Militants used IFV in Krymske.
Earlier it was reported that militants claimed “external management” of Ukrainian enterprises in Donbas. The decision took effect yesterday, on March 1.
Phone talks of Ukraine President Poroshenko with Russian President Putin end without any agreements
Amid the escalation of hostilities in east Ukraine, President Poroshenko held two phone conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss termination of shelling of Avdiivka and release of hostages, including Ukrinform journalist Roman Sushchenko, Joinfo.com reports with reference to Ukrinform.
“Amid the escalation of hostilities in Donbas, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko held two telephone conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin in order to stop ongoing attacks on Avdiivka and restore the power supply to the town, as well as to free hostages, including Oleg Sentsov and Roman Sushchenko,” the presidential administration said in a statement.
As noted, the telephone conversations were held in coordination with the European partners under the “Normandy format.”
The press service of the Presidential Administration noted that the talks ended without any agreements.
