Elina Svitolina reaches UAE tennis tournament semifinals

Ukrainian Elina Svitolina defeated American Lauren Davis (6:0, 6:4) in the Dubai tennis tournament quarterfinals.

In the semifinals, Ukrainian will play the winner from the pair Angelique Kerber – Anna Konyukh.

Regardless of the result, next week Svitolina will rise to 12th place in the WTA rankings and set a new record of Ukraine.

Earlier Ukrainian tennis player Dolgopolov won the tennis tournament in Buenos Aires.

USAID agricultural project launched in Ukraine

The project of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) “Agricultural and Rural Development Support” has been launched in Ukraine, Joinfo.com reports with reference to Ukrinform.

“The launch of the USAID international project ‘Agricultural and Rural Development Support’ will contribute to the comprehensive economic growth through the development of rural areas and the agricultural sector as a whole. The project was officially launched within the framework of a series of international forums and exhibitions, which took place on February 21-23 at the KyivExpoPlaza exhibition centre,” the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry of Ukraine said in a statement reads.

The implementation period of the project is August 7, 2016 – July 3, 2020. The tasks of the projects are as follows: to create attractive living conditions in rural areas of Ukraine; to increase competitiveness of Ukrainian agricultural products; to introduce the international quality and safety standards; to provide access of domestic agricultural products to new export markets of the EU countries.

MP Honcharenko freed from abduction – Security Service

Odesa region’s prosecutor Oleh Zhuchenko has announced that Ukrainian prosecutors together with SBU Security Service officers in Odesa region have detained a criminal gang that planned the abduction and mutilation of Oleksiy Honcharenko, a member of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc of Ukrainian parliament, Joinfo.com reports with reference to UNIAN.

Answering the question whether he knows where Honcharenko is at the moment, the prosecutor said: “Yes, he is in a safe place and is giving evidence as a victim.”

Earlier Thursday, PGO press secretary Larysa Sargan has announced that Oleksiy Honcharenko, a member of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc parliamentary faction, has been abducted.

Militants launch 54 attacks, 1 soldier wounded in Donbas over the past 24 hours

Russia’s hybrid military forces attacked Ukrainian army positions in Donbas 54 times in the past 24 hours, one Ukrainian soldier was wounded in action, according to the press service of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) Headquarters.

“In the Mariupol sector, the occupiers fired portable Grad rocket launchers, 122mm artillery systems and mortars of various calibers on the village of Vodiane. Mortars were also used to attack the villages of Lebedynske and Shyrokyne. Moreover, the enemy used heavy machine guns and small arms to fire on the villages of Hnutove, Vodiane, Shyrokyne and Pavlopil,” the report says.

The villages of Luhanske, Troyitske and Zaitseve in the Donetsk sector came under mortar fire. What is more, the Russian occupation forces used grenade launchers of various systems and small arms to shell the town of Avdiyivka, and the villages of Opytne, Pisky, Zaitseve and Luhanske. Additionally, enemy infantry fighting vehicles were used to attack Luhanske.

“In the Luhansk sector, the invaders used 120mm mortars and rocket-propelled grenades to shell the village of Novozvanivka,” the headquarters said.
