Ukraine News Today: Lawyer killed in Kyiv late Friday night
The lawyer died from the gunshot wound in the hospital.
The lawyer was murdered in Dniprovskyi District of Kyiv. This was reported by the press service of the National Police in Kyiv.
Incident took place at night on Mykolsko-Slobidska street. Law enforcement officers received a report from passers-by who saw the man in blood on the ground. The investigative team immediately arrived at the scene.
According to preliminary data, the unknown was found near the house where the victim lived, came from behind and shot him in the head. The lawyer died from the gunshot wound in the hospital.
Law enforcers identified the victim as a 46-year-old local resident, who was returning home from work.
During the inspection of the scene, law enforcement officers using a service dog found the shot cartridge case of 7.65 mm caliber, which was sent for examination.
The investigation considers the number of versions of the crime such as murder for robbery, personal life issues, and professional activity, as the killed person was a lawyer.

Militants attacked Ukrainian army positions in Donbas 25 times in the past 24 hours, as Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) HQ informs, Joinfo.com reports with reference to Ukrainska Pravda.
In the Donetsk sector, militants fired 82mm mortars on the Ukrainian positions near the village of Novoselivka Druha, and small arms and rocket-propelled grenades – on Avdiyivka town and the village of Zaitseve.
In the Mariupol sector, the enemy fired small arms and rocket-propelled grenades on the villages of Shyrokyne, Pavlopil, Talakivka and Hnutove. They also fired from infantry fighting vehicles in the village of Taramchuk. Also, a sniper was shooting in the village of Novotroyitske.
In the Luhansk sector, militants attacked Ukrainian positions in the villages of Novozvanivka, Syze and Stanytsia Luhanska.
Ukrainian ambassador to the US spoke with President Trump
Ambassador of Ukraine in Washington Valeriy Chaly said he has spoken on relations with Ukraine with the US President Donald Trump during the inaugural events. Chaly said the conversation took place in a positive manner, Joinfo.com reports with reference to 112 Ukraine TV Channel.
“I took the opportunity to briefly speak with the president-elect to ensure that Ukrainian issue would not be ignored,” Chaly said.
He clarified that the conversation took place two days ago during pre-inauguration.
“I cannot tell you the nature of this conversation, but I can say that prior to this a very positive chat between the Ukrainian president and the newly elected president Trump actually took place. My conversation is the development of this dialogue,” the diplomat said.
He also noted that the key challenge for Ukraine today is to ensure dialogue at the highest level.
“It is not easy to achieve this now, but I believe our task is to have such a dialogue,” he said.
Ukraine Currency Rate: Central bank has strengthened official exchange rate of Ukrainian hryvnia to UAH 27.42 per US dollar
The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) on Friday evening strengthened the official hryvnia exchange rate by two kopiykas, bringing the national currency to UAH 27.42 to the dollar, according to UNIAN.
NBU set the following official exchange rates of the hryvnia against leading foreign currencies for January 23:
$100 costs UAH 2,742.8490 (on January 20, it was UAH 2,744.2159);
EUR 100 costs UAH 2,916.1971 (on January 20, it was UAH 2,927.5295);
10 RUB costs UAH 4.5967 (on January 20, it was UAH 4.6236).
On Friday, January 20, hryvnia quotations against the dollar on the interbank currency market by the close of trade settled at UAH 27.39/27.44 to the dollar.
Hryvnia quotes against the euro settled at UAH 29.11/29.28 while those against the Russian ruble settled at UAH 0.4613/0.4630.
According to the National Bank of Ukraine, the weighted average exchange rate of the hryvnia as of 16:00 was UAH 27.4285 to the dollar, with 454 deals concluded by this time worth a total of $217.24 million.
