Medication Pricing in Ukraine: Prices for some medicines in Ukraine 14 times higher than in other countries
Prices for some drugs in Ukraine are inflated 14 times compared to the reference countries, Joinfo.com reports with reference to Ukrainska Pravda.
“According to the organization “Patients of Ukraine,” the Ukrainians often have to travel abroad to buy medicines for themselves or their relatives, because they are many times cheaper there”, – stated in the article.
“Of the 97 medicines monitored by the organization nearly a third (28.9%) has been sold in Ukraine for much higher prices than in other European countries”, – points out the representative of the organization.
“Moreover, some drugs’ prices in Ukraine have inflated 14 times compared to the reference countries. And we must give credit to the government, which nevertheless decided to reform the pricing on the pharmaceutical market”, – says the report.
Earlier it was reported that the Ukrainian Cabinet introduced the so-called reference (average) prices for drugs for cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and asthma from 1 January 2017.

At the cash segment of the foreign exchange market, hryvnia was trading at the level of 28.8 per US dollar.
As of 11:30 local time on Sunday, 1 US dollar was trading at an average of 28.61 hryvnias (purchase) and 28.79 hryvnias (sale).
The volume of US dollars offered for sale was nearly three times higher than the volume the buyers wanted to purchase.
At the same time, the official hryvnia exchange rate on January 16 was UAH 27.66 per dollar.
Euro exchange rate on the “black” market was at 30,09-30,37 hryvnia/euro.
It should be recalled that on Friday, Jan. 13, the Ukrainian Central bank intervened currency exchange market to support hryvnia after it dropped to UAH29 per dollar.
