ATO HQ report: Russian proxies increased shelling in Donbas on Independence Day, used heavy weapons

During Ukraine's Independence Day on August 24, Russian terrorist forces 85 times opened fire in the Antiterrorist Operation area in eastern Ukraine, using heavy weapons prohibited under the Minsk Agreements

During the last day the Russian occupation forces 85 times opened fire on positions of the ATO forces, including 38 times – in the Donetsk sector, 22 – in the Mariupol sector and 25 – in the Luhansk sector, according to the HQ spokesperson Major Iryna Baranova, Joinfo.ua reports.

In the Donetsk sector, the enemy struck with heavy artillery of 122mm caliber on the villages of Troitske and Luhanske before dawn. Along the entire boundary line of this area – Nevelske – Avdiyivka Industrial Area – Svetlodarsk arch – the enemy made attacks with 120mm and 82mm mortars, grenade launchers of various systems, heavy machine guns and small arms. The occupants struck the town of Avdiyivka wit tanks, as well as they fired infantry fighting vehicles on the village of Luhanske. About midnight occupants fired near sixty 152mm artillery shells on the village of Semyhir’ya.

In the Mariupol sector, the enemy released over a hundred 122mm shells from mobile artillery systems on the village of Shyrokyne. Invaders conducted shelling with 120mm mortars on positions of the Ukrainian troops in the villages of Novohryhorivka, Shyrokyne, Starohnativka, as well as fired 82mm mortars on the villages of Mar’inka and Krasnohorivka. The Russian terrorist combined forces also fired grenade launchers and heavy machine guns in the villages of Vodiane, Shyrokyne and Pavlopil town. They fired armored personnel carrier near Mar’inka. Also, enemy snipers were active in Mar’inka and Novotroitske.

In the Luhansk sector, the enemy fired heavy 152mm artillery on positions of the ATO forces in the villages of Kalinove-Popasne, Novozvanivka, Zholobok and Novotoshkivske. Invaders used 122mm artillery in shelling on the village of Krymske. They fired mortars, grenade launchers and machine guns on the villages of Krymske, Stanytsia Luhanska and the town of Popasna. The enemy fired grenade launchers and heavy machine guns in the villages of Zolote and Novooleksandrivka. Besides, the occupants fired tanks near the village of Krymske, as well as infantry fighting vehicles in Stanytsia Luhanska. A sniper fired near Novooleksandrivka village.
