ATO HQ report: Russia backed militants made 77 attacks on Ukrainian troops in Donetsk and Luhansk regions

In the Luhansk sector of the area of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO), there were 9 attacks on Ukrainian troops, of which 7 were made with use of mortars, according to the information released today by Colonel Oleksandr Motuzyanyk, the spokesman of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine for ATO issues, at the briefing in the Analytical-Information Center of the Ukrainian Security Service, Joinfo.ua reports.

The Russia backed militants used 82mm and 120mm mortars actively near the villages of Novozvanivka, Novooleksandrivka and Staryi Aidar.

The vast majority of these attacks ranged from two to eight mortar shells, which may be conducted with mobile units, so-called “stray mortars” which are used by gangs to provoke conflict escalation, firing on positions of the ATO forces ATO and temporarily occupied territories adjacent to the front line.

Militants also opened fire with heavy machine guns and grenade launchers in the abovementioned areas. Another armed provocation took place near the village of Lopaskine.

In the Donetsk sector of the ATO area, “hot spots” remain in the Avdiyivka industrial zone and the village of Zaitseve. During the fighting in Avdiyivka, the occupiers made a shelling and shot four times with mortars. They also used grenade launchers of various modifications.

It was restless in the neighboring villages of Pisky and Opytne, where militants fired from infantry fighting vehicles and mortars. Another mortar attack took place near the Butivka coal mine.

Illegal armed groups opened fire near the village of Zaitseve both in the day and night. In most cases, militants fired from grenade launchers, heavy machine guns and small arms, and in the evening they used infantry fighting vehicles and mortars.

Instead, attacks near the village of Luhanske on the Svitlodarsk arc diminished. Militants did not used heavy weapons in that area.

In the south of the Donetsk sector, militants used mortars in the night time near the village of Nevelske, and near Krasnohorivka village the enemy fired from anti-aircraft installation.

In total, militants made 31 attacks in the Donetsk sector, 11 of them with heavy weapons.

In the Mariupol sector, shelling did not abate along all the front line. It was especially restless in the area of Shyrokyne village, where Russia-terrorist troops fired all weapons except artillery and missile units all day long. Instead, they used artillery near Pavlopil town and the village of Vodiane.

The enemy also actively used mortars near the villages of Mar’inka, Hranitne, Hnutove and Talakivka. In addition, they fired infantry fighting vehicles near Mar’inka and Novotroitske.

In total, there were 37 attacks in the Mariupol sector, 14 of them with heavy weapons. Also, in this area Ukrainian military have recorded two flights of enemy drones.

During the last day of hostilities, none of Ukrainian soldiers was killed, three were wounded in action in the Mariupol sector.
