Ukraine’s Defence Ministry invited NATO to make use of capabilities of Ukrainian air transport to carry alliance troops and cargo the Alliance summit in Warsaw on July 8-9
Head of Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s Department on military policy, strategic planning and international cooperation, Major-General Anatoliy Petrenko said that on July 8-9, during the NATO summit in Warsaw, Ukraine’s Defense Minister, Stepan Poltorak, held a series of bilateral meetings, UNIAN reports.
“With regard to our priorities and proposals, the Defense Minister has also put forward specific proposals for NATO, our allies and partners, enabling us to make use of Ukraine’s potential, with a view of strengthening mutual interests in the security sector,” Petrenko said.
“In this context, I would also like to mention our potential in the field of strategic and air transport. As is known, a fundamental decision has been taken. The cooperation with the Russian Federation has been suspended, within the framework of NATO’s Strategic Airlift Interim Solution, and we propose NATO take advantage of the potential of our state-owned company Antonov and begin using Ruslan and Mriya aircraft for transportation of troops and cargo,” Petrenko said.
It should be recalled that Ukraine presented its transport plane An-178 on the Farnborough International Air Show.
