Russian proxies made 6 attacks on positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the Luhansk sector of the area of the Anti Terrorist Operation in eastern Ukraine, according to the information released today by Colonel Oleksandr Motuzyanyk, the spokesman of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine for ATO issues, at the briefing in the Analytical-Information Center of the Ukrainian Security Service, Joinfo.ua reports.
Of these, 5 provocations in the area near the town of Popasna and the Bahmutska road was unsighted. The sixth attack was aimed on Ukrainian positions on the left bank of the Seversky Donets River near the village of Sokilnyky. As a result, one Ukrainian soldier was wounded.
In the Donetsk sector the situation remains difficult. The main “hot spots” are the Avdiyivka industrial zone, where the enemy is actively applying mortars, grenade launchers and sniper weapons. Ukrainian troops were forced to open fire in response.
Militants have also fired actively in the area adjacent to the Donetsk airport. The enemy released over 40 shells on Ukrainian fortifications there in the last day.
Russian-terrorist forces continued armed provocations against AFU on the northern outskirts of the occupied Horlivka town. Instead, it was calm west of the town. Only late in the evening it was recorded the enemy sniper’s fire on Ukrainian positions in Novhorodske village.
There was one enemy provocation with use of grenade launchers and small arms which lasted for about 2 hours on the Svitlodarsk arc.
During the last 24 hours there were 19 enemy attacks in the Donetsk sector.
In the Mariupol sector of the ATO area, the enemy activity significantly increased. Thus, there were 46 attacks on Ukrainian positions yesterday, which is almost three times as many as the day before. Almost half of those were made with use of heavy weapons – mortars and artillery guns.
The enemy was most active near Shyrokyne village. Starting from noon to sunset, militants fired some 50 mortar shells and 40 artillery shells. They also used artillery near Novotroitske village. An enemy sniper fired actively there in the afternoon. And late at night militants fired at the ATO forces with grenade launchers of various systems and machine guns.
It has been a difficult situation in Mar’inka village, where the enemy used the entire arsenal of weapons available, in addition to artillery and tanks. Militants have also fired small arms on the entrance/exit checkpoint there. There were no casualties reported there. In neighboring Krasnohorivka village, illegal armed groups made two mortar shellings on the ATO forces in the day time and at night.
There were also series of cease fire violations near the front line section between Chermalyk and Lebedynske.
Ukrainian servicemen have also recorded 3 flights of militant drones in the area of ATO.
For the past day of the fighting, one Ukrainian soldier was killed by a sniper in Avdiyivka industrial zone. Six Ukrainian soldiers were wounded, five of which were wounded as a result of hostile attacks and one – due to an explosion of a trip wire near Starohnativka village.
