On Monday Naftogaz Ukrainy head Andriy Kobolev said that he was allowing for the possibility of buying Russian gas starting in Q3, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to Interfax-Ukraine.
“Yes, really, yesterday we received an official letter from the director of Naftogaz Ukrainy with a request for the resumption of supplies of Russian gas. This concerns nine months: H2 2016 and Q1 2017. That is, all of the coming winter and the period leading up to it. The change in sentiment of the Ukrainian company is understandable. The daily volume of the reverse flow from Europe fell 84% in June in comparison with May and by 94% in comparison with April,” Miller said.
Kobolev said on Monday the purchases would be possible “if Gazprom agrees to adopt temporary changes to the existing contract… in this concrete case, if the price is lower than the price which is offered to us from Europe, from the point of view of minimizing spending of consumers and simply common sense, it would be correct to buy this gas from the East.”
