Occupants made a massive shelling on the town of Avdiyivka in the suburbs of the occupied Donetsk, said Colonel Oleksandr Motuzyanyk, the spokesman of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine for ATO issues, at the briefing in the Analytical-Information Center of the Ukrainian Security Service, Joinfo.ua reports.
Militants blatantly violated the Minsk agreements and fired 70 artillery shells of 122mm caliber. They also fired grenade launchers, heavy machine guns and small arms on the town.
The residential area was damaged during those attacks. In particular, one house was burned to the ground, another one received significant damage. An elderly woman was injured in the shelling.
The enemy fire was so intense that there was a direct threat not only to the lives of military personnel and civilians, but also members of the Joint Center for Control and Co-ordination (JCCC). In order to guarantee the safety of the observation mission (OSCE SMM), all its members were evacuated, including representatives of the Russian side.
Militants made that shelling in order to demonstrate to the representatives of the OSCE SMM and to the Russians the reluctance to follow a truce.
Colonel Motuzyanyk has also drawn attention to the fact that immediately after shelling on Avdiyivka, militants turned the artillery and fired toward the Donetsk city in order to accuse Ukrainian military of armed attacks on militants’ positions. That was not the first time when insurgents fired in both directions to accuse Ukrainian troops.
But the ATO forces have strictly observed the Minsk agreements and not endangered civilians.
According to Colonel Motuzyanyk, during the last day of hostilities one Ukrainian soldier was killed and one wounded during the shelling on Avdiyivka.
In the Donetsk sector, the situation was also tense north of Horlivka. Militants fired small arms near Zaitseve. An enemy sniper fired there too. Militants twice used heavy machine guns and small arms near the village of Luhanske on the Svitlodarsk arc.
In the Mariupol sector, militants have significantly increased the number of attacks near Shyrokyne. The enemy used small arms, grenade launchers, heavy machine guns and 120mm mortars, prohibited by the Minsk agreements. Hostile provocations with use of 82mm, 120mm mortars and armored vehicles were recorded also near Starohnativka. An enemy sniper fired near Krasnohorivka.
In the Luhansk sector, militants fired small arms, grenade launchers and heavy machine guns near the village of Trohizbenka. They also made one shot towards positions of the ATO forces near Staryi Aidar.
Occupants fired from grenade launchers and anti-aircraft installations near Novozvanivka, the Popasna district. The most difficult situation was in Stanytsia Luhanska, where militants fired heavy machine guns and grenade launchers on positions of Ukrainian troops for an hour. According to the Luhansk regional military-civilian administration, the entrance/exit checkpoint and local railway bridge have got under fire there. This may indicate a deliberate provocation of the enemy, to force the administration to limit the passage of the people to the territory controlled by Ukrainian authorities.
