The parties discussed prospects of enhancing assistance from the UN organizations in the restoration of vital infrastructure in Donbas and ensuring development of the areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions affected by the Russian aggression. Special attention was paid to urgent humanitarian needs of IDPs in Ukraine, according to the presidential press service.
Petro Poroshenko emphasized the importance of access to innovative sources of funding through interaction with institutional donors, charity organizations, international business associations for Ukraine to implement social, economic, environmental and humanitarian projects in Donbas. The parties discussed special projects on demining of territories, creation of new jobs and development of education opportunities for children, inter alia, modernization and restoration of educational facilities.
The parties agreed to consider the issue of establishing a new UNOPS Office that will coordinate projects and programs implemented by the UN in Ukraine and ensure mobilization and rational use of the international financial aid.
The UN Deputy Secretary-General congratulated Ukraine on a “brilliant and deserved victory” of Jamala at Eurovision in Sweden.
