On Tuesday, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko had a phone conversation with Ukrainian pilot and MP Nadiya Savchenko, illegally convicted in Russia for 22 years of prison. The phone conference took place during the President’s meeting with Nadiya’s mother Mariya Ivanivna and her sister Vira, Joinfo.ua reports.
After the meeting President Poroshenko wrote on Twitter that Nadiya has agreed to stop the hunger strike temporarily.
As the Presidential press service reported also, in the course of the conversation, Petro Poroshenko said that the whole country was proud of her persistence and supported her.
“The entire country is proud of you, your persistence, courage and patriotism. You have become a symbol of Ukraine,” Petro Poroshenko said.
“Ukraine keeps doing everything for your liberation,” Petro Poroshenko said also.
President Poroshenko said also that he will send his plane to Rostov, Russia to bring Nadiya Savchenko back home.
It should be recalled that a few days ago Nadiya’s lawyer Nikolai Polozov said that if the Russian authorities would decide to convoy Nadiya Savchenko to the colony, it may cause her death, because of the critical health condition.
Nadiya’s lawyers also expressed hope for swap of their client for the Russian servicemen Yevgeny Yerofeyev and Alexander Alexandrov, convicted in Ukraine for 14 years of prison.
