Such statement the Ukrainian president made at a press briefing while attending the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to UNIAN.
“Ukraine’s firm position is that for the full implementation of the Minsk agreements it is necessary to ensure a relevant security component. This security component means that we should ensure a solid ceasefire, an effective monitoring of weapons withdrawal, an effective control over the uncontrolled parts of the Ukrainian-Russian border,” Poroshenko said.
In addition, the president noted that in case of holding elections in certain areas of Donbas on the basis of Ukrainian legislation it is necessary to ensure the withdrawal of Russian troops, the withdrawal and storage of weapons away from the illegal armed formations. According to the president, one of the possible solutions would be the international security component in the form of the OSCE armed police mission. For this to be done, the OSCE has to decide on extending its mandate, the president emphasized. He added Ukraine was in talks to ensure this security component.
At this, Poroshenko stressed Ukraine insists on the comprehensive implementation of the Minsk agreements, which envisages the restoration of infrastructure and the security of a humanitarian component, as well as the release of all the hostages who are being illegally held in Russia, including Nadiya Savchenko, Oleh Sentsov and other Ukrainian political prisoners.
