On March 16, the Russian militants did not stop shelling on strong points of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. During the past day they carried out 52 attacks in the area of the Anti Terrorist Operation: in Donetsk sector – 39, in Mariupol sector – 11 and in Luhansk sector – 2 attacks, said today Major Serhiy Zhmurko, spokesman of the ATO headquarters, Joinfo.ua reports.

In Donetsk sector militants made most of shelling on strong points in Zaytseve and Avdiyivka. They used all kinds of weapons, including weapons banned by the Minsk agreements – 82mm and 120mm mortars. Militants released more than 130 shells there.

Russian mercenaries fired on the ATO forces’ strong points near Popasna and Troitske with Anti Tank Rocket System (PTRK), they fired from an infantry combat vehiсle (BMP) near Luhanske, and thrice – near Avdiyivka. Militants fired grenade launchers and heavy machine guns on Ukrainian positions in Novhorodske and Mayorsk.

In Mariupol sector the Russian mercenaries fired small arms, anti-tank systems and 82mm mortars  on strong points of the defenders of Shyrokyne.

Militants’ snipers fired on Ukrainian army’s positions near Nevelske, Mar’inka and Krasnohorivka.

At 19:15, near positions of the ATO forces near Popasna, an enemy subversive group of about 10 people tried to enter the rear of the ATO forces’ territory, but was spotted. Ukrainian military opened fire and forced the mercenaries to retreat.

From midnight shelling stopped.
