Ukraine’s Security Service: Russia refuses to discuss liberation of Nadiya Savchenko at Minsk talks

On Friday March 11, the Trilateral Contact Group held a meeting in Minsk in the frame of peace talks on the settlement of the situation in eastern Ukraine, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to Ukrinform.

Yuriy Tandit, adviser to the head of the Security Service of Ukraine, said that although the captive Nadia Savchenko is still on hunger strike in Russian prison, the representatives of the Russian side at the meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group in Minsk did not want to even discuss any options of her liberation.

“That’s right, the issue [of Savchenko’s release – Ed.] was discussed. The President said and we confirmed that we were ready for any compromise. And we have officially declared that we are ready to consider options for Nadia’s release. But today, the representatives of the Russian Federation rejected the consideration of Nadia Savchenko’s liberation issue”- Tandit said.

As Tandit says, the Ukrainian party is “open to any options.”

“The main thing is this all should stay in the framework of the [Minsk] agreement. They [the Russian side] should not talk to us from the position of strength. But we are ready for any compromises in order to free our hostages “, – he said.

It should be recalled that at the previous meeting the Trilateral Contact Group agreed to stop military drills in Donbas from March 4. The sides also agreed to to designate the mined areas and complete mine-clearance mapping in Donbas before March 31.
