Protecting rights of Crimean Tatars is among priorities of negotiations between Presidents of Ukraine and Turkey

Today Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko had a meeting with Speaker of the Turkey’s Grand National Assembly İsmail Kahraman, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to the press service of the Presidential Administration.

President Poroshenko expressed interest of Ukraine in enhancing interparliamentary interaction with Turkey at bilateral level and within the international organizations.

Ukrainian President thanked Turkey for its support in the issues of human rights violation in the occupied Crimea and urged the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly to take further action to keep the given issue on the agenda of world politics.

İsmail Kahraman confirmed that Turkey does not recognize the illegal annexation of Crimea and supports Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Special attention was paid to the issue of recognizing the deportation of Crimean Tatars in 1944 an act of genocide.

President Poroshenko and his wife met with representatives of Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars who live in Turkey. President Poroshenko noted that protection of rights of Crimean Tatars and coordination of joint actions aimed at restoring Ukrainian sovereignty in Crimea would be among priorities of his negotiations with Turkish leaders.

“Brutal violation of human rights in Crimea in the course of the Russian occupation is absolutely unacceptable,” Petro Poroshenko stressed.

The agenda of the visit also provides for the meeting with President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu.
