Russia fully bans transit of Ukrainian cargo vehicles

On Tuesday February 16 Russia fully suspended the transit of cargo vehicles registered in Ukraine through its territory, said the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, Joinfo.ua with reference to TASS.

“Due to the continued blocking of Russian freight vehicles transit on the territory of Ukraine, the transit of Ukrainian cargo vehicles in the territory of the Russian Federation is suspended fully at 12:00 Moscow time of February 16, 2016,” – said the ministry in a statement.

Freight delivery to the territory of Kazakhstan is permitted, but only by the carriers of the third countries, emphasized the ministry.

The report also said that the Russian Federation has halted 324 Ukrainian trucks.

It should be recalled that yesterday Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers imposed a temporary ban on the transit of Russian-registered cargo vehicles through Ukraine’s territory.

The statement of the Cabinet said that the decision was made in response to actions of the Russian authorities, which, in breach of rules and procedures of the World Trade Organization and the bilateral intergovernmental agreement on international road transport, unilaterally blocked the movement of Ukrainian cargo vehicles through the territory of the Russian Federation.

On 11 February Ukrainian activists began to block transit trucks with Russian registration plates in Zakarpattya region near border with Slovakia and Hungary, where Russian trucks were redirected after Poland suspended cargo transportation agreement with Russia.

Ten regions of Ukraine, including Zakarpattia, Volyn, Lviv, Rivne, Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi, Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovsk, Zhytomyr and Sumy regions have already joint the campaign.

Yesterday Russia has halted all Ukrainian cargo trucks on its territory.
