Russia vs NATO: Moscow deployed military division for drills near EU borders

On February 15-20, 2016 Russian Ministry of Defence launches military trainings of the Airborne Troops that involves 2,500 paratroopers, 300 armored, automotive and special military vehicles, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to the MoD of Russia.

The drills will take place in Pskov region in north-west Russia, which is near borders of Latvia and Estonia. The troops will practice simultaneous or sequential landing by parachute, landing and assault methods of landing (from helicopters on unprepared sites from the height of 2-3 meters).

The paratroopers will apply a “Polet-K” automated control system of troops and fire. Also, they will use in practice Andromeda-D control system of artillery fire, new communication means, systems of early detection of air targets, unmanned aerial vehicles.

Particular attention will be paid to the organization air defense and increasing of capacity of advanced units’ logistics.

The drills will involve Military Transport Aviation of the Air Force of Russia and army aviation of the Western Military District.

It should be recalled that Russia brought in full combat readiness the troops of South and Central Military Districts, airborne troops and transport aviation. Russia concentrated 8,500 servicemen, 900 military vehicles, 200 planes and helicopters, and 50 war ships in southern Russia and in Crimea allegedly for military trainings.
