In the framework of the Presidential Debates at the Munich Security Conference, President Poroshenko emphasized that Europe and Ukraine faced significant security challenges and the only way to overcome the aggressor was to unite efforts, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to the Presidential press service.
The Head of State thanked the organizers of the conference for the provision of a unique opportunity for the dialogue about the security. Petro Poroshenko noted that there was a threat of emergence of new Europe with different values. “Europe is associated with certain values for Ukrainians. Today, there is a threat of alternative values that cause isolationism, intolerance, disrespect for human rights, religious fanaticism and homophobia. This alternative Europe has its own leader called Mr. Putin. This alternative Europe has its own barefoot soldiers called pro-Russian parties that fight against Europe,” Poroshenko stressed.
According to the Ukrainian President, one can win this war being united and struggling together for the European values. “I understand that Europe is going through the most difficult crisis in its history. We can win this battle together,” Petro Poroshenko said.
The President reminded that thousands of Ukrainians sacrificed their lives fighting the Russian aggressor. He added that international sanctions against Russia were not a punishment, but an instrument to return Russia to the negotiating table.
Commenting on Russia’s statements regarding the alleged civil war in Donbas, the President emphasized that two thirds of the occupied Donbas had been liberated from militants and since then there had been no conflicts in the given area. “Mr. Putin, it is your aggression, not a civil war in Ukraine. It is not a civil war in Crimea, it is your troops who occupied my country. It is not a civil war in Syria, it is your bombardment of civil society in Syria. And it is a demonstration that we live in parallel universes with Russia,” Petro Poroshenko noted. He added that the speech of Prime Minister of Russia Medvedev was a part of Russian propaganda, which is an integral part of Russian hybrid warfare that can be used against any country.
“The only way to stop the aggressor is our solidarity. We believe in European unity, transatlantic unity and solidarity with Ukraine,” Ukrainian President said.
