On Thursday the situation in the area of Anti-Terrorist Operation deteriorated. Militants carried out 81 attacks on Ukrainian positions – a record number since the end of August 2015. In 12 attacks separatists used heavy weapons. One Ukrainian soldier was killed, three were wounded in action, said the spokesman of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine for ATO issues Colonel Andriy Lysenko at the briefing in the Information Center of the National Security Service of Ukraine, Joinfo.ua reports.
In Lugansk region it was absolutely quiet yesterday.
In Donetsk srctor, there were active hostilities on all fronts. The most difficult situation remained in Mayorsk and Zaitseve, where militants over 160 released mortar shells on Ukrainian positions yesterday. Insurgents carried out bombardment from firearms and grenade launchers day and night. This enemy activity shows that the ATO command made the right decision to close the checkpoint “Zaitseve” for entry/exit on February 3.
“Militants continue shelling near the Donetsk airport and on Svitlodarsk arc. However, despite these provocations, the front line remains stable, the enemy has no chance to advance”, – said Colonel Lysenko .
In Mariupol sector, the situation remains restless too. In Maryinka, militants repeatedly opened fire from grenade launchers. The fire was carried from the direction of the village of Trudivske. One local civilian was seriously wounded.
On the defense line Hnutove – Talakivka militants carried out 3 mortar attacks at Ukrainian positions.
In addition, last night Ukrainian border guards detected with a thermal imaging a militants’ subversive group of 5 people, who tried to penetrate the positions of Ukrainian army near the village of Pishchevyk, north-west of Mariupol. Thanks to the coordinated interaction of the border guards and army, the saboteurs were forced to retreat to the east, taking away the wounded.
