As UNIAN correspondent reported, Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel at a joint press conference with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that the sanctions will remain in place until Russia fully implements the Minsk agreements, Joinfo.ua reports.
On Monday, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko arrived in Berlin on a working visit to Germany.
At a joint press conference with President of Ukraine, Angela Merkel said: “Once again Poroshenko proved that Ukraine is devoted to the implementation of Minsk agreements,” – she said.
As Merkel said, the cease-fire mode in Donbas has not been complete yet. So, it is necessary to continue work towards peace.
“We will try again to sit down and discuss how we can resolve the situation in Donbas”, – she added, noting that “we need a long period of ceasefire.”
“We hope that the OSCE observers will have access to all places in Donbas”, – said the German Chancellor.
“Given the fact that Minsk agreements are not fulfilled, we will have to continue sanctions against Russia. If Minsk agreements were fully implemented, we could lift the sanctions, but currently they are not implemented,”- said Merkel.
It should be recalled that on December 21, 2015, the Council of the European Union prolonged economic sanctions against Russia until 31 July 2016.
