On January 25, the defence ministers of Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine – Juozas Olekas, Antoni Macierewicz and Stepan Poltorak will open the headquarters of the joint Lithuanian-Polish-Ukrainian brigade (LITPOLUKRBRIG) in Lublin, Poland. The brigade will consist of an international headquarters, three infantry battalions and specialized units, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to MoD of Ukraine.

The ceremony will be officially announced that the headquarters of a brigade has been formed for 90% and has reached initial operational capability.

“LITPOLUKRBRIG will allow the military to operate in a single headquarters, to take part in joint exercises, to prepare for joint international missions and to share experiences, to strengthen cooperation and improve communication between our armed forces. At the same time, our project contributes to regional and international security, “- said Juozas Olekas.

Lithuanian Defence Minister also expressed confidence that the project will help the Ukrainian army to prepare soldiers according to NATO standards, to improve command and control procedures, and to actively participate in cooperation in the region and the Euro-Atlantic area. According to the minister, it will also enable the Lithuanian and Polish military to study the valuable experience of our Ukrainian colleagues.

The brigade will consist of an international headquarters, three infantry battalions and special-purpose units. The brigade commander, his deputy and chief of staff will be appointed by representatives of each country for three years on a rotating basis.

Currently, the Commander of the brigade is the representative of Poland, Brigadier Adam Joks, his deputy – Colonel of Ukrainian army Volodymyr Yudanov; Chief of staff – the Lithuanian military, Lt. Col. Eligijus Senulis.

Press service of Defence Ministry of Poland informed that the defense ministers held a meeting and discussed, in particular, issues related to the security situation in the region and military-political cooperation.

It should be recalled that on July 24, 2015 in Lviv, the defense ministers of Poland, Lithuania and Ukraine signed a technical agreement to establish a joint military brigade LITPOLUKRBRIG, which would consist of 2,000 Poland soldiers, 545 – from Ukraine, 350 – from Lithuania.

Later, on September 19, 2014 in Warsaw, the defense ministers of Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania endorsed the agreement on establishing the Brigade.
