On January 23, 2016 the United Nations assessment mission starts working in Ukraine. Experts will focus on humanitarian issues, mine clearance and resolving the situation in Donbas, Joinfo.ua reports.
Representatives of the UN assessment mission will hold a series of meetings with government officials and visit Donbas.
It is planned that the mission will hold meetings with officials of the central executive authorities in Kyiv. The mission will visit Donbas to study the situation on the ground, in particular in the field of humanitarian issues and mine clearance.
The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine reported that the mission will include representatives of the UN Development Program, UN assessment mission started its work in the Donbas.
Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations, Volodymyr Yelchenko earlier announced intention to invite the UN assessment mission to study the situation in Donbas in a view of the possibility to deploy a peacekeeping mission to the eastern Ukraine.
He also said that landmines and remnants of ammunition and equipment injure and even kill civilians.
