On January 17, the situation in the east of Ukraine has got worse. At night militants have repeatedly used heavy weapons prohibited by the Minsk Agreements: 82 mm mortars and armored vehicles. The forces of the Anti-Terrorist Operation were forced to open fire in response to stop the provocations of the enemy, according to the information released by the spokesman of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine for ATO issues Colonel Andriy Lysenko at the briefing in the Information Center of the National Security Service of Ukraine, Joinfo.ua reports.
In Lugansk region there was no fighting yesterday.
In Donetsk region insurgents intensified the shelling on all fronts. Near the village of Luhanske Ukrainian positions were fired twice from weapons of an armored infantry carrier (BMP). In Zaitseve militants conducted attack with mortar. Yesterday it was restless in Novgorodske, where insurgents also used the weapons of an armored infantry carrier (BMP) and 82-mm mortars. Also, militants continued to carry out regular provocations using small arms and grenade launchers.
Near the Donetsk airport situation was tense again.
Militants fired twice from BMP at Ukrainian positions near Starohnativka, Mariupol district. Moreover, they intensified attacks east of the line of defense from Talakivka to Lebedynske.
