Meeting of the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland and Vladislav Surkov, the aide of the Russian president Vladimir Putin, has begun behind closed doors in the Russian westernmost city Kaliningrad, as Russian media informed, Joinfo.ua reports.

“As we know, a meeting has already begun behind closed doors”, – stated in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

According to preliminary information, Surkov and Nuland will discuss the implementation of the Minsk Agreements on the settlement of the situation in the eastern Ukraine. None of the 13 provisions of the agreements has been implemented in full during the year, the sources noted.

Earlier Victoria Nuland has arrived in the Kaliningrad region from neighboring Lithuania, where Surkov could not come to because of the EU sanctions.

In the past year, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State has held several meetings with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Grigory Karasin.

It also reported that yesterday the U.S. President Barack Obama and his counterpart Vladimir Putin have also discussed the situation in Donbas in a phone conference.
