On January 7, in Luhansk region the situation remained calm.
In Donetsk region of the Anti-Terrorist Operation area, militants conducted most of shelling near Horlivka. Near the village of Zaitseve north of Horlivka, the enemy fired thrice from 82-mm and 120-mm mortars at Ukrainian positions, having released 8 mines in all. In Mayorsk and in the western suburbs of Horlivka, mercenaries held a series of armed provocations using small arms and grenades, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to the information released by the spokesman of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine for ATO issues Colonel Andriy Lysenko at a briefing in the Information Center of the National Security Service of Ukraine.
Another hostile provocation took place near the village of Nevelske, Yasinovatskiy District. There after sunset gunmen opened fire with heavy machine guns at Ukrainian positions. After that, the mercenaries continued shelling with the weapons of a tank and armored infantry carrier (BMP-2), which is prohibited under the Minsk agreements.
Near the Donetsk airport, shelling did not stop throughout the day, but heavy weapons were not used.
In Mariupol district, the only episode of the violation of silence was militants’ mortar attack on the ATO forces near the village of Lebedynske, Volnovakha district.
Also yesterday a flight of the two Russian spy planes along the administrative border with the occupied Crimea was recorded.
The Colonel also said, that illegal armed groups continue regular violations of discipline and show a low morale. Thus, on January 6, the newly appointed commander of one of the so-called “1 AK” units of the self-proclaimed “Donetsk People’s Republic”, under the influence of alcohol seriously injured his subordinate. The command of the unit is taking steps to conceal the incident and avoid the investigation.
Also, yesterday militants brought four dead bodies to the morgue of a hospital in Donetsk and said that the men were killed in a blast of their own explosive devices near Svitlodarsk.
