During the day of January 3, the situation in the Anti-Terrorist Operation area has stabilized, according to the information released by the spokesman of the Presidential Administration on the ATO issues Colonel Andriy Lysenko at a briefing in the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center on Monday.
However, during the day militants carried out 11 attacks at Ukrainian positions. They did not use heavy weapons. None of Ukrainian soldiers was killed and or wounded in action.
According to Colonel Andriy Lysenko, in Donetsk region militants shot at Ukrainian positions near the town of Svitlodarsk, east of Novgorodske and in the territory of the Donetsk airport. Almost all of attacks were at random. A sniper was shooting in Novgorodske again.
Russia-backed illegal armed groups violated cease-fire in the village of Shyrokyne in Mariupol sector. “The militants opened fire on our positions twice from grenade launchers. Both attacks were aimed, but brief, “- said Colonel Lysenko and added that “cease-fire was traditionally kept in Luhansk sector.”
But, near the village of Zoria, Donetsk region, a flight of militants’ unmanned aerial vehicle was observed.
Colonel Lysenko also said that, according to the intelligence, psychological condition and discipline among the militants has been deteriorating during holidays. “13 militants from self-proclaimed “the 11th motorized rifle regiment of Donetsk People’s Republic” deployed in Makiyivka have deserted from positions in the Donetsk airport since the beginning of 2016,” – he said.
