The negotiations with Russian delegation on the economic part of the Association Agreement between the EU and Ukraine lead to nothing, said Russian Minister of Economic Development Alexei Ulyukayev, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to Russian media.
According to him, Ukraine and the EU were not prepared to consider Russian concerns. Thus, the Russian Federation cancels the FTA with Ukraine and put food embargo into force from January 1, 2016.
“We have completed our work (6 ministerial meetings and nearly 20 expert meetings). The RF showed maximum flexibility in the negotiations on the EU-Ukraine association”, – he said.
“But we have unequivocal unwillingness of partners from the EU and Ukraine to take into consideration Russia’s concerns about the Association,” – said Ulyukayev.
In turn, the EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmstroem said after three-way talks in Brussels on Monday that “there was no agreement, so this exercise is now over,” – Associated Press reports.
Malmstroem said “there was not enough flexibility on the Russian side” during what was the 22nd round of talks between the three sides over almost 18 months.
Earlier, the EU officials stated the FTA between Ukraine and the EU will come into force in 2016 without any changes, despite the fact that Russia has repeatedly asked the EU to delay its implementation.
It should be recalled that on December 16, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the suspension of the free trade area agreement with Ukraine from January 1, 2016.
