UNICEF is alarmed by the threat of the possible disease outbreaks due to untreated water in Donbas, where nearly 3 million people are in need of clean water, according to the press service of the international organization, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to Podrobnosti.ua.
UNICEF stated that the armed conflict has significantly damaged the water-supply and sanitation infrastructure in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
“The treatment of drinking water is extremely important for prevention of the outbreaks of the waterborne deseases in communities affected by conflict or emergency situations,” – said in the organization.
It is noted that over the last month, about one million people in eastern Ukraine have received clear water for drinking, cooking and hygiene needs in the framework of the UNICEF project. The water has been purified by chlorine, since this method is the most common.
