Chief of General Staff of the Russian Army General Valery Gerasimov, at a meeting with foreign military diplomatic corps in Moscow, said that Russia has been threatened of terrorism transfer to the territory of their country after the destabilization of the situation in the Middle East, African countries and Afghanistan, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to Vesti.ru.

That is why Russia launched an operation against ISIS in Syria, according to the Russian general.

The Syrian Free Army of more than 5 thousand people has been carrying attacks in the provinces of Homs, Hama, Aleppo and Raqqa, said Valery Gerasimov.

“The number of the members of the Syrian Free Army is constantly growing. Just to support them, the Russian air forces carried out 30-40 daily air strikes. They also provided arms, munitions and material resources to the SFA”, – said Gerasimov.

Gerasimov reminded also that Russia is acting in Syria on the official invitation of the legitimate Syrian government. He emphasized that Russian air strikes targeted only control centers, manpower concentration places, warehouses of ammunition and training camps of ISIS militants.

The U.S.-led coalition, in turn, stated that Russian bombers hit everything but the ISIS positions. They repeatedly called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to stop targeting the Bashar Assad’s opposition forces.

Despite such statements, yesterday, the Observatory for Human Rights said unidentified war planes hit the town of Douma near Damascus killed at least 28 people on December 13, including two children and a school principal, a group monitoring the Syrian war said.

Al Jazeera claimed, citing its source, that  air strikes were carried out by Syrian government and Russian air forces. The raids began at about 8:30am local time (06.30GMT).
