The Estonian authorities started to install boundary markers on the border with Russia. The first such sign was placed in the Misso Võru County, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to the Estonian Public Broadcasting.
“Against the background of not the best bilateral relations with its eastern neighbor, Estonia has decided to begin equipping border line, without waiting for the ratification of the border treaty with Russia”, – the report says.
First post was marked with number two, as the post number one will be installed only after the ratification of the border treaty.
Frontier zone will be equipped with the most modern technology that can stop attempts of illegal border crossing.
In general, Estonia intends to install 760 of pillars 210 cm high on land and floating boundary markers on the water.
It should be recalled that on November 3-4, nine presidents of NATO member countries from Central and Eastern Europe, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland and Bulgaria, met behind closed doors in Bucharest. The final document stated the need to strengthen ties with the United States and stand united against “Russian aggressiveness”.
