Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in the interview with Ukrainian TV channels said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces increased defensive measures and the level of combat readiness because of the escalation in Donbas. In case of threat to their lives, Ukrainian servicemen can open fire in return, Joinfo.ua reports with the reference to the AP press service.

“We’ve substantially increased the level of combat readiness and steps the Ukrainian army will make for the defense,” he said.

According to the President, Ukrainian military nave already eliminated 4 subversive groups near Ukrainian positions, and found additional evidence of the participation of Russia and its citizens in the aggression against Ukraine.

The President informed that the withdrawn Ukrainian artillery was constantly ready to be brought back to its position and open fire in response.

Also, Ukraine keeps the OSCE SMM informed about all violations of the Minsk agreements by militants. “We pinpoint the location of their artillery, which hasn’t been withdrawn. We monitor them, we have a system of satellite reconnaissance and UAVs,” the President said.

According to the President, Ukraine emphasized upon the issue of demining in Donbas at the meetings with the OSCE representatives and negotiations in the Normandy format, because significant part of casualties in the east was caused by landmines. At the meeting with High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini, the President reached an agreement on the EU’s involvement in the given process. The Head of State expects it to accelerate the process of demining and reduce the number of victims among both militaries and local residents.

It should be recalled that lately the situation has become much more tense. The militants stepped up attacks in the Donetsk and Mariupol directions.
