Today is the Day of Silence in Ukraine, ahead of Sunday voting in the second round of the elections mayors in 29 towns, reports Joinfo.ua.
So, today any campaigns are prohibited, and all the political billboards and posters must be removed.
Violation of the order of the political campaign, according to the current legislation threatens with an administrative responsibility as a penalty to 1,360 UAH.
However, taking into account the previous experience, there have been expected multiple violations of this prohibition in Ukraine.
Elections to local government bodies were held under new electoral law on October 25, 2015. According to the new law, towns with a population of less than 90,000 people elected mayors by a simple majority, and larger towns – by an absolute majority (50% plus one vote).
In 29 big cities, none of the contenders for the post of mayor gained an absolute majority. So, the second round of elections was set on November 15. Its results should be published by 20 November.
