Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered to sign a Russian-Armenian agreement to establish a joint regional air defense system of collective security in the Caucasus region, Joinfo.ua reports with the reference to TASS.
“In order to accept the proposal of the Russian government on the signing of the Agreement between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Armenia to establish a joint regional air defense system of collective security in the Caucasus region,” – said the decree. – “Instruct the Russian Defense Ministry to hold negotiations with the Armenian side, with the participation of the Russian Foreign Ministry, on reaching an agreement, to sign the said Agreement on behalf of the Russian Federation, allowing to make non-principle amendments to the Agreement, approved by the government.”
Earlier, the Coordinating Committee on Air Defence under the Council of Defense Ministers of the CIS stated that “in relation to the United Air Defense System of CIS, the priority development is the further integration on a regional basis, i.e. the creation of a unified or joint regional air defense systems in the Eastern European, Caucasian and Central Asian areas of collective security.”
