ATO latest news: on November 8 the militants increased firing at the Ukrainian positions. Russia resumed the supply of weapons to militants

During Saturday, the position of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were shelled along the contact line from Gorlovka to Mariupol. At the same time, the Ukrainian side of a Joint Center of Control and Coordination of the Ceasefire in Donbas (JCCC) said that arms and ammunition were brought from the Russian Federation to Donbas again, Joinfo.ua reports.

The head of the Ukrainian side of JCCC Major General Borys Kremenetskyi issued a statement on the current situation.

Despite the strict of Ukraine’s commitment to the implementation of the Minsk agreements, the illegal armed groups on the DPR, LPR-controlled territories continues to destabilize the situation.

The situation along the boundary line deteriorated sharply, starting from October 18, 2015, which coincided with the beginning of the second phase of the removal of weapons, and demonstrated a stable tendency to further exacerbation.

In general, for the period from October 18 to November 6 the Ukrainian side of JCCC recorded 26 violations of ceasefire and 361 provocative shellings at Ukrainian positions and the “gray zone” in order to make the Ukrainian militaries to fire in response.

Another aggravation of the situation occurred in the run-up to the meeting of foreign ministers in the Normandy format in Berlin.

Only on the last day, November 6, the next shift of the Ukrainian side of JCCC recorded 26 provocative shelling at the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces with small arms, heavy machine guns and grenade launchers.

Most often the shellings were heard in the area of the Donetsk airport, Pisky, Opytne, Mar’inka and Shyrokyne.

The most cynical against this background looks the shelling by the militants at the village of  Krasnogorivka from 82 mm mortars on 6 November, at a time while the foreign ministers were meeting in Berlin. The militants continued firing from mortar at the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the area of Zaitseve on November 7. It happened despite the fact, that the militants, through their own media resources, reported on the withdrawal of this kind of weapons.

The Ukrainian side of JCCC considers such provocative actions of illegal armed groups as a purposeful steps to destabilize the situation and the reluctance of the leaders of illegal armed groups and their sponsors to fulfill their obligations under the ceasefire and to reduce of tension along the line of contact.

In the case of continuing the practice of provocative fire on positions of ATO and residential areas,  Ukrainian side of JCCC will have to offer to discuss the situation in the framework of the Trilateral Contact Group.

Also, JCCC is concerned about the practice of limiting of the SMM of the OSCE admission to all places of storage of weapons in the territory, temporarily uncontrolled by Ukraine and uncontrolled part of Russian-Ukrainian border, through which continues the supply of weapons, military equipment and ammunition to the militants.

Also continues the obstruction to the work of the OSCE in the ATO area with the radio-electronic equipment, which the Armed Forces of Ukraine are not equipped with.

According to the Ukrainian side of JCCC, objective assessment of the situation should be facilitated by the extension of the SMM of OSCE, installation of surveillance cameras in the area of the Donetsk airport, Shyrokyne and active use of UAVs. The Ukrainian side is ready to contribute to solving these issues.
