Security Service of Ukraine detained a former Minister of Justice Olena Lukash, Olena Hitlyanska, the Spokesperson of SBU wrote on her Facebook page, Joinfo.ua reports.
“On 15.00 (Kyiv time -Ed.) we scheduled a briefing on the matter of detention Olena Lukash, Ukrainian Ex-Minister of Justice, by the Security Service of Ukraine. Olena Lukash was searched for by the police for her involvement in the crimes against the Maidan,” – Hitlyanska sayd.
Olena Lukash’s lawyer Andriy Smyrnov told Ukrainska Pravda edition, that he does not know where she was taken.
“A person has actually been stolen, because I do not know to what direction my client was taken and where she is now,” – he said.
Smyrnov said he called the police to the scene and was waiting for them.
Given the fact that the lawyer arrived at the scene quickly, probably Lucash was arrested in Kyivv.
The Prosecutor General’s Office claimed that Olena Lukash was detained for questioning, and on Friday, most likely, it will be the court hearing to elect the preventive measure. This was said to Ukrainian Pravda edition by Serhiy Horbatyuk, the head of special investigations of the SBU.
He said that the Prosecutor General’s Office conducts the investigation on suspicion of committing a crime under article 191 of the Criminal Code, i.e. illegal possession of funds of the state budget, while being on the post of the Minister of Justice. Later, Lukash was announced wanted, because her whereabouts was unknown.
“Today the SBU announced that they have detained Olena Lukash. She was brought to the investigator,” – said Gorbatyuk and added that the investigator will announce of suspicion to her.
“Most likely, tomorrow the court will choose a preventive measure to Lukash,” – also said Horbatyuk.
He did not specify exactly where Lukash was arrested and under what circumstances, noting that all of this information they should be provided by the SBU.
Olena Lukash is a former Minister of Justice in the Cabinet of Mykola Azarov, during Viktor Yanukovich’s presidency. During the Revolution of Dignity, she was one of the negotiators from the government, along with Viktor Yanukovych and Andriy Portnov, his Deputy Chief of staff.
