Russian air strikes in Syria mostly hit the areas of the rebel groups, fighting against the army of Syrian President Bashar Assad, shows the research of the British research team Bellingcat, Joinfo.ua reports.

Such a conclusion is based on analysis of video recordings of the Russian Ministry of Defense. According to the experts, the territory of ISIS has rarely been bombed. Of the 60 airstrikes, recorded on the video, published in the official account of the Defense Ministry of the Russian Federation on YouTube, only one hit the position of terrorists. In the case of nine recordings, the team could not verify the location.

According to the study, Russian aviation bombed mainly targets in provinces of Hama, Idlib and Latakia, where there are no militants of Islamic state. The first two provinces are under the control of various anti-government groups.

In each case, recorded on the video, the researchers compared the statement of the Ministry of Defence of the place and the purpose of its application, and then compared that information with data on the presence of militants in the area, the designated date and date of downloading on YouTube. For verification of the targets on the video and the geographical coordinates used a special project Checkdesk.
