Commenting the situation in Mariupol, President Poroshenko stressed, that the local elections in Mariupol are essential and this situation is totally unacceptable, Joinfo.ua reports.
Yesterday in Mariupol, Donetsk region the local elections did not take place, because the city election commission refused to accept the bulletins, therefore they have not been delivered to polling stations. The citizens could not vote at more than 205 polling stations.
The Central Election Commission in response to the events in Mariupol appealed to law enforcement agencies so that they have checked the presence of corpus delicti in the actions of the city election commission.
Commenting the situation in Mariupol, President Poroshenko said : “The situation in Mariupol is totally unacceptable. I’ve been highlighting the necessity of elections in Mariupol from the very beginning. We cannot accept falsification there. I’ve instructed the law enforcement bodies to thoroughly investigate into the case and provide a public report. I expect political forces to comment on the situation as well. I address the Verkhovna Rada and the Central Election Commission for them to provide an immediate response to this issue. The Parliament should adopt legislative amendments at the coming session in order to ensure the holding of elections in Mariupol in the nearest time.”
The President emphasized that the elections in Mariupol were essential. He is confident that they must be held in 2015. “It is the face of Ukraine. We should demonstrate to the whole world that Ukraine is a free and democratic state and we do everything for the elections to meet the highest world standards,” – President said.
