Putin: Russia will help to establish a political system in Syria

Vladimir Putin at the meeting with Bashar Assad in Moscow thanked Syrian President for coming despite the dramatic events in his country. Putin said during the meeting that Syria has been almost single-handedly fighting against international terrorism and has achieved success in this fight for today, Joinfo.ua reports citing Russian media.

Assad thanked Russia for its political steps, which had not allowed the situation in Syria to develop by a tragic scenario. According to him, if not for Russia, terrorism today would spread throughout the region.

Putin has assured his counterpart that Russia is ready to contribute not only to the defeat of terrorism in Syria, but also in the political process in the country. Assad replied that Syria and Russia can work together to defeat terrorism and to start a joint restoration of Syria politically and economically.

Putin also emphasized on many people from former Soviet republics participate in fightings in Syria. “Unfortunately, immigrants from the former Soviet Union are fighting in Syria with arms against the government troops, there are at least 4,000 of them there. And we certainly can not allow them after receiving military experience and passing an ideological processing, appear on the territory of Russia”, – Putin said at the meeting.

He also said that Russia is concerned about the general situation in the region and terrorist activities, especially ISIS’ attempts subjugate entire regions of the Middle East.

Putin said that Russia is ready to cooperate on this issue with other world powers, who are also interested in the settlement of the Syrian conflict.

It should be recalled that yesterday Syrian President Bashar Assad arrived in Moscow with a working visit to discuss with Russian President Vladimir Putin the military operations in Syria.
