President of Ukraine Poroshenko: if the Minsk Agreement not fulfilled on time, Ukraine to request for UN peacekeepers

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko: Ukraine will return to the proposal on introducing the peacekeepers to the territory of Donbas if the implementation of the Minsk agreement fails to meet the agreed schedule

“Ukraine will return to the proposal on introducing the peacekeepers to the territory of Donbas if the implementation of the Minsk agreement fails to meet the agreed schedule,” – President Petro Poroshenko said in an interview to Ukrainian TV

As stated by the President Poroshenko, Ukraine can also use the membership in the UN Security Council to stabilize the situation in Donbas, Joifno.ua reports.

Poroshenko also noted that there is a threat of escalation of the conflict in the eastern Ukraine at any moment.

“To stabilize the situation, I do not exclude, especially if the conditions of the Minsk agreements are not implemented in accordance with the agreed schedule, we can return to the proposal on the introduction of the UN peacekeeping units to the territory of the eastern Ukraine,” – said Poroshenko.

He recalled that the UN Security Council makes decision on sending the peacekeepers, and Ukraine, as a member of the Council, will be able to defend its position.
