More than 200 people came to Suvorov Square for Moscow peace rally to express the protest against the Kremlin’s policy in Syria, Joinfo.ua reports referring to the information of local journalists who are on the scene. The social action was agreed with the Moscow government.

According to the journalist Anastasia Zotova, some people came to the rally with the so-called ‘St. George’s ribbons’, but law enforcement hold everything under control. Police has detained a girl with a poster “Putin – the shame of Russia”.

Activists are protesting against the increased military operations of Russian troops in Syria, which, in their opinion, may develop into ‘the second Afghanistan’.

The protesters characterize interference in the affairs of Syria as ‘a new step in Putin’s foreign military ventures’. In a statement the initiators of the action – Solidarity movement and the unregistered Party of December 5 – said that the authorities are trying to divert the attention of people from domestic problems. Activists said that the operation the Russian Armed Forces in Syria support only one of the sides in the protracted civil conflict.

“We are against this war, because we do not want the deaths of civilians and Russian soldiers to keep the cruel Assad’s regime at power,” – said activists.
