It should be recalled that on October 3 the Turkish Foreign Ministry reported that Russian military aircraft violated the airspace of the country. The incident happened in the Yayladagi region of Turkey’s southern Hatay province. The Russian jet was intercepted by two fighters F-16S from the Turkish air force, which were conducting patrols in the region. Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian ambassador in Turkey to protest the violation.
Turkey threatened to respond if provoked again, raising the prospect of direct confrontation between the Cold War enemies.
On Monday October 5 at NATO emergency meeting of ambassadors of 28 member states in Brussels allies denounced Russia for violating Turkish air space along the Syrian border.
