Aleksandr Zakharchenko, the head of so-called DNR set the date of local elections on March 20, 2016. Today he has signed ‘a decree on the elections of heads of local self-government in DPR,’ Joifo.ua reports.

“To postpone the day of the first election of heads of local committees, set by decree of the Head of the DPR as of September 16, 2015 № 358, from October 18, 2015 to March 20, 2016,” – said the decree, which came into force on the date of signing.

It should be recalled that on October 6 representatives of DPR and LPR, Denis Pushilin and Vladislav Deinego announced the postponement of their elections scheduled on October 18 and November 1 to the next year.

However, these elections are not planned to be held in accordance with Ukrainian legislation, as agreed in the Minsk Agreements. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko stated that “the elections would pose a serious threat to the Minsk process just like the elections of November 2, 2014 that ruined all the efforts under the Minsk protocol and Minsk memorandum of September 5 and September 19, 2014”.
