China set to join Russian air strikes in Syria

On October 2, China informed Russia they would shortly join the Russian air campaign in Syria, Joinfo.ua report with the reference to DEBKAfile.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, said on Thursday at the UN Security Council: “The world cannot afford to stand by and look on with folded arms, but must also not arbitrarily interfere (in the crisis).”

China is going to send J-15 warplanes from the Chinese Liaoning-CV-16 aircraft carrier, which came to Syrian shores on September 26. This will be the first Chinese military operation in the Middle East.

At the same time Iraq proposed to deploy Russian jets on air base at Habbaniyah, 74 km west of Baghdad for carrying out air strikes at ISIS positions both in Iraq and Syria.

It should be recalled that on September 25 it was announced that Russia, Syria and Iran set in Baghdad a coordination center to cooperate with Shia militias in fighting against ISIS. This center is working on coordination of the passage of Russian and Iranian warplanes to Syria and also Russian air raids. This command center is also organizing the transfer of Iranian and pro-Iranian Shiite forces into Syria. So now Russia has a military bases in Iraq, beside its permament military base in Syrian Latakia.

Moreover, the Habbaniyah air base also serves the U.S. armed forces for operating in Iraq.
